Two Quality Majors Added to the National Higher Education Self study Examination

Recently, the Ministry of Education sent a letter to the State Administration for Market Regulation, and after deliberation by the National Higher Education Self study Examination Guidance Committee (hereinafter referred to as the National Examination Committee), it was agreed to add the Quality Management Engineering (upgrading from associate degree to undergraduate level) and Quality Management and Certification (associate degree) to the list of majors for the Higher Education Self study Examination. This means that the National Higher Education Self study Examination will open two quality majors, cultivating scarce quality professionals for enterprises and solidifying the talent foundation for building a quality strong country.

It is reported that the National Examination Commission will organize the formulation of examination standards and norms for two majors, and guide self-study examination departments in various provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government) to carry out professional examination and construction work. According to relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education, the State Administration for Market Regulation will fully leverage its industry administrative management functions, organize experts from universities such as China University of Metrology, Tsinghua University, Beihang University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, as well as relevant institutions such as the National Industrial Engineering Teaching Guidance Committee and the Market Supervision Vocational Education Guidance Committee, to participate in the development of examination standards and specifications, and strive to start the examination within 2023.

The person in charge of the Quality Development Bureau of the State Administration for Market Regulation stated that building a strong quality country is a major decision and deployment made by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council. The central government has put forward clear requirements for vigorously cultivating quality professionals. However, currently, there are only over 1000 fresh graduates of quality majors in China every year, and the shortage of quality talents has become a prominent weakness that restricts the high-quality development of Chinese enterprises. The insufficient supply of quality professionals is also one of the important reasons why China's quality problems have not been effectively solved for a long time. The establishment of quality self-taught majors is very urgent and necessary. At the same time, the quality major in China currently has a good teaching foundation, and its characteristics are also suitable for adult continuing education. Relevant universities in various provinces (regions, cities) actively respond and take the lead in the examination work, with strong support from relevant departments and enterprises. The conditions for adding self-study majors in the field of quality have become mature. Before the official start of the two majors, the State Administration for Market Regulation will work with the Ministry of Education to introduce incentive policies, strengthen publicity and promotion, and achieve good results in promoting self-study exams for quality majors. This work will undoubtedly play an important role in building a high-quality country and promoting high-quality development.
